Erie bayfront investment good for economy and infrastructure, Casey says

WASHINGTON, D.C. – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Scott Enterprises recently announced its plan to create a $150 million dollar project along Erie’s bayfront. It’s a project that could create jobs and strengthen Erie’s economy.

Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) said an investment like this is great for Northwest Pennsylvania.

“They’re critically important, especially in a time where you don’t have nearly enough public investment in infrastructure generally but specifically port infrastructure, so if you have any kind of private sector commitment, which I would hope generally, would be coupled with public sector investment,” Casey said. “But that’s a pretty significant development and it should bode well for the people of Erie and Northwestern Pennsylvania.”

The company said the $150 million dollar project would make use of 11.5 acres along Erie’s bayfront and turn that space into a mixed-use area where people can live, work and play. The project, called Harbor Place, could create hundreds of jobs in the area and increase tourism.

Congressman Mike Kelly also supports the idea.

He said in a statement, “Any effort to support and enhance private sector development on some of the most valuable property in Erie is a worthy endeavor and I am happy to support this effort however I can.”

The Harbor Place project is expected to take seven to 10 years to complete. Casey and Kelly said they will be watching it closely as it develops.
