CBS Puerto Rico: Resident Commissioner Pierluisi on Puerto Rican equality

November 19, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the 520th anniversary of the discovery and colonization of Puerto Rico, Congressman Pedro R. Pierluisi rallied advocating for the end of the undemocratic and territorial political status of Puerto Rico and in support of equality for the island’s 3.6 million U.S. citizens through statehood.

Congressman Pierluisi was joined by several of his Republican and Democrat colleagues.

The rally was hosted by the “Igualdad” (Equality) movement, a nonpartisan, nonprofit, grassroots citizen advocacy organization that was created to demand the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities for the U.S. citizens of Puerto Rico that are enjoyed by all of their fellow citizens in the 50 states of the Union.
